This review makes me incredibly sad to write. 5 star was wonderful with the previous service writer. My family and I have brought multiple cars to 5 star over the years, this was my first experience since Mike has taken over as service writer and it was miserable. I have a Lexus Ls400 that has run flawlessly for years as these cars do. I brought it in for a noise coming from the alternator or power steering pump and we opted to replace them both plus the steering rack. The first oddity was being told the battery kept needing to be jumped.Hadnt happened to me and the battery was fairly new but I had no reason not to trust them so I decided to replace that too. Turns out someone had bumped the light stalk, leaving the brights on which means the auto headlights do not work and were left on constantly. The battery was even still under warranty from Lexus but they had disposed of it by the time I found this out. The next thing came when I got home and popped the hood to check things out and found a new noise plus a vacuum line they hadn't reattached. I called to mention this and Mike scolded me saying he isn't a mechanic and the guys had never heard the noise as they're older and hard of hearing. Mike's words, not mine. I brought the car back and said in no way did I think the shop was at fault but it sounds to me like the new alternator was bad. Again Mike scolded me, repeating many times that he is not a mechanic and quoting me diagnostic fees. When I called at the end of the day, Mike was no longer combative and said the alternator was bad and would be replaced. When picking the car up Mike went back to aggressively telling me he isn't a mechanic and this isn't their fault. He also told me they had discovered an issue with the car running lean(which it had never done) that they had to fix after installing the 2nd alternator, and that even with a good alternator I should hear it charging from outside the car. I had never heard it in my years of ownership, or on any of my other cars, or any other Ls400 I have been around. Lexus also says you shouldn't be able to hear it. I took the car home, checked under the hood, and once again found that vacuum line disconnected. After driving the car a few weeks I noticed my average gas mileage had dropped by about 30% and I remembered Mike's mention of the car running lean plus the vacuum line that was forgotten twice. I called to ask about that and once again Mike scolded me about his not being a mechanic, said he didn't know what they did to fix the lean issue, that they didn't take notes about what the issue was or how it was corrected, refused to let me talk to the actual mechanic who worked on my car, said the sudden drop in MPG was definitely due to its age and none of the things they did that potentially impact A/F ratio, then told me the diagnostic fee if I wanted to drop the car off yet again to let them poke around and figure this out. I opted not to bring it back at this point and am waiting until I have the money to take it back to Lexus to let them figure out what happened at 5 star. So here I am 5 months post repair with a car that is plowing through gas at an astronomical rate and making weird, rotational, whining noises from the alternator/power steering pump area, plus less confidence in the car than I have ever had. I spent $4000 to make myself question the car daily. I'm hesitant to take it back because I don't want Mike to yell at me again about him not being a mechanic and how the noise the mechanics can't hear is one my car should be making. I understand issues pop up with the best of businesses but how those issues are handled is much more important. Mike's style of combative communication that feels defensive and designed to shuck any responsibility made figuring out any of my issues nearly impossible. I'm going to attach a picture of the vacuum line that was left unattached on both visits because I can't upload the video of how goofy my car sounds these days. And again, up to this interaction 5 star had been phenomenal to me so this breaks my heart.
